Phénom – The Phenomenal Way to Manicure
As the popularity of gel manicures increases, the beauty industry seems to have forgotton that although the durability of them supasses a regular polish, it isn’t suitable for everyone – The hassle of making time to get the gel polish removed at the salon, commiting to one colour for 3+ weeks, not being able to rectify a chiped nail at home. No.6 would like to present to you the ultimate resolution- Jessica Phénom.
A evolution in nail polish. The longevity and high shine of a gel polish with the convenience of being able to remove it at home with a regular polish remover.
The first stage of application is the Phénom base coat. Jessica’s prescriptive formular slowly feeds the nail, keeping the bed healthy and prolonging the life of your manicure.
In the second stage the Phénom colour is applied, 2-3 coats achieve the desired result. You can also choose from a wide selection of seasonal colours. From festive golds, summery corals and autumnal purples, there’s a beautiful, high pigmented colour for every occasion.
The penultimate, and most important stage, is the Phénom topcoat. This product it what gives the Phémon manicure it’s unmistakeable high-shine and long lasting finish. Once applied, and carefully looked after, a Phénom manicure can last up to 10 days with the same mirror-shine finish as a gel manicure.
Last, but not least, the Phénom nail oil is applied to the cuticles. This deep penetrating oil containing Vitamin E, jojoba, Sweet Almond and Rice Oil, intensively nourishes the cuticle, promoting growth and keeping nails supple.

The truth about facials
In this latest blog post, Ruth dispels some facial myths and tells you the honest truth about our No.6 treatments.
On a daily basis we find ourselves educating our clients on beauty treatment misconceptions and how the media can turn a perfectly safe, results driven treatment (when performed by a trained aesthician) into something from a horror movie. We thought we would share some of our most common FAQ’s about advanced facials, so you can make an informed decision about whether they are the right treatment for you.
(Although this is a general Q&A, we offer complimentary 30 minute consultations in house so we can establish which of our facials would be best suited for each individual)
Q: Peels are painful, I’ll turn tomato-red and all my skin is going to fall off (think Samantha in Sex and the city)
A: We offer peels in many different strengths, depending on your skin’s tolerance, how long you have been using advanced products for and what results you are hoping to achieve. Some of our peels are even suitable for clients who have very sensitive skin and rosacea.
If it’s your first facial with us, and you’re a skin care novice, we will start with one of our milder peels. Using one of our Dermaquest peels, which has lactic acid (which your skin already has within it- so is very well tolerated) and gradually building you up at a pace you and our Aesthetician are both comfortable with.
Yes, some people do have a reddening to their skin after a peel. Again, depending on the peel strength, your skin’s natural sensitivity and your routine at home, can all be contributing factors in how ‘pink’ your skin may turn. Some clients like to have a high colour in their face after a treatment because they feel like the product had been active on their skin, whereas others may ask for a milder peel on certain days, as they’re out for lunch after their appointment. So as normal as having a slightly ‘pink’ face is after a peel, this will fade in 24 hours (usually much sooner).
As I said earlier, peels come in many different strengths and varieties, treating many different skin concerns. Whilst some peels can make your skin ‘peel’ (think after a sunburn), none should result in you leaving a full skin face mask on your pillow when you wake up. Whether your skin peels after a treatment, or not, isn’t a reflection of how effective the peel was and instead is down to each individual, as our skins all react differently.
If you are concerned about having an advanced facial before an event, I would recommend having a ‘trial’ facial 4-6 weeks before to see how your skin reacts to the treatment, then you can judge when would be best to have the treatment before your special occasion. Or better still, have a course of treatments 3-6 months beforehand so that your skin has plenty of time to adapt to the facials and home care products, all ensuring that your skin is looking it’s best.
Q: Results driven facials aren’t relaxing.
A: False! Many clients say they feel relaxed during our treatments and describe a ‘floaty’ feeling afterwards. Many even nod off during our facials…
As part of the treatment, we offer clients a massage which focuses on the neck and shoulders, hands and arms, or feet. A little added touch which makes the treatment that much more enjoyable and relaxing.
I find that many clients are just thankful for a lie down and some time for themselves. So many of us have hectic lifestyles, long commutes and children at home, so having time to themself goes a long way for not only their skin health but mental wellbeing too.
Q: When my therapist does my massage I’d like more/less pressure…
A: Of course you want the pressure to be right, you’ve been looking forward to your treatment all week. Pre-treatment, we will ask you to state your preference on pressure and right at the start of the treatment, we will check in that you’re happy with the pressure applied. Some areas may be more sensitive, or require a bit more elbow grease, so please let us know if you’d like us to adjust our pressure.
If you come in for regular treatments, your therapist will get used to how you like your massage done, making sure it’s a bespoke treatment for you every time.

What are microcurrent facial treatments?
Microccurent facials, often called ‘natural’ or ‘non-surgical’ facelifts, offers a work out for your entire face. It’s suitable for clients looking for anti-aging results, and can also be used as a preventative, so it’s suitable for all ages and skin types*.
The machine emits low-voltage currents (hence the micro) simulating your body’s own electrical rhythm, increasing cellular activity, stimulating collagen and elastin production, improving muscle tone, reducing puffiness and plumping fine lines and wrinkles. This amazing treatment requires NO downtime, so you are free to continue your day as usual, with visible results after the first treatment.
During the facial, your therapist will carry out a traditional manual cleanse, then use the Microcurrent machine for the second cleanse. This starts to break down the skins natural electrically resistant barrier, helping the treatment become more effective (don’t worry, it gets restored back to it’s original state at the end).
Once the skin it suitably prepped, the lifting phase 1 begins. On your first visit your therapist will use the lowest voltage and gradually build up the intensity over the facial course. They will work methodically across the face with two small metal probes, using specially developed movements to achieve optimal results. The whole lifting process is then repeated with lifting phase 2.
A collegen mask is then applied and worked into the face and neck with the probes, helping to penetrate the formulation into the skin. The skin is then treated to a pH balancing phase, returning the skin to its natural state of conductivity.
During the a course of 12 treatments, the initial facial is 60 minutes, and will involve all the steps explained above. The subsequent treatments will be 30 minutes and will include a cleanse, lifting phase 1 and 2 and application of finishing products including SPF.
The microcurrent facial is available as a one-off treatment for £65 which is good for prepping skin for a special event, but for longer lasting, results, we recommend a course of 12, having 2-3 treatments a week for 6 weeks.
*pregnant women, people suffering with heart conditions or a pace maker should avoid this treatment.

What is Botox? Your questions answered
Botox is a neurotoxin that temporarily allows the muscles to remodel and relax when injected, causing them to appear smoother, fade or disappear. No.6 Clinic’s medical team prescribe and then administer their own advanced injection techniques to provide tailor made treatments for each patient, thereby giving the exact results they wish to achieve. All treatments are followed up by the same doctor or nurse prescriber 2-4 weeks post treatment.
Where can I have Botox?
It is used to treat wrinkles and fine lines such as crows feet (around the eyes), frown lines (on the brow) and forehead lines.
Does it hurt and will people know I’ve had it done?
Fine microneedles are used which therefore makes the procedure generally pain-free. Some patients do prefer to have numbing cream which is topically applied pre-appointment. The injections only take a few minutes, and in most cases, the areas won’t be noticeable so you can carry on as normal that day.
When will I see results and how long does it last?Up to 5 days after treatment you will start to see Botox working and you will see the full effect peaking after 2-3weeks. Depending on a few factors (age, area injected and amount of product used ) the results will last around 4-6 months.
