Shingi Marakike’s article in the Sunday Times addresses two VERY serious issues; the number of under 18s seeking cosmetic procedures AND the lack of regulation and under qualified practitioners offering treatments. Our medical team at the No.6 Clinic have seen these worrying problems first hand too.
Here at the No.6 Clinic, we have a strict policy not to treat anyone under the age of 25, unless there is a clear medical indication. Physically, the full facial structure doesn’t finish forming until post-teen years and early Botox can have a profound effect. We feel passionate that there needs to be a legal age restriction implemented. Instead of injectables our Aestheticians can recommend top skincare products and a non-invasive facial programme to address our younger client’s individual concerns.
Over the past few years, our Doctors and Aesthetic Nurses are unfortunately having to correct more procedures by inexperienced practitioners. Research is key! Read reviews and check to see if the clinic has D1 use with full liability insurance. We cannot stress enough, that if you are considering injectables, to ALWAYS go to a fully licensed medical aesthetic practice which has stringent policies and procedures in place. Don’t be tempted by cheaper prices as this often means that the practitioner is inexperienced, the premises are not a medical practice and/or that the products are not what they seem. You’ve have to do this mental check, think to yourself, would you have a medical or dental procedure here? Would you have a tooth/mole removed here by this person?
Here at No.6 Clinic Dr Natasha Gilani, has over 15 years and Dr Peter Bell has 7 years and Nurse Prescriber Lisa has 11 years of experience in aesthetics. You can read their biographies over on our website: www.no6clinic.co.uk/meettheteam.php

In this latest blog post Ruth discusses caring for your eyebrows – one of No.6’s most popular beauty treatments.
People often under estimate the power of a well-defined brow but a simple treatment can instantly frame, lift and define your face.
Eyebrows should be treated like sisters, not twins. They will never be identical to each other, but you should definitely be able to tell that they are ‘related’. Achieving the ideal brow shape for your face can take a little time, depending on how full your natural brows are, as well as the colour of your brow hair.
If you book in for an eyebrow re-shaping appointment, you need to have at least 4 weeks worth of growth. This is so that your therapist can get the best shape possible for your face. I like to first explain to the client how I feel the brow should be groomed, showing them in a mirror and taking in to consideration how the client likes their brows to look too. Once happy with the proposed re-shaping I start with the waxing – here at No.6 we use Lycon Wax (which is virtually pain-free).
If you feel your brow growth is quite sparce and you would like to have a fuller brow, I would highly recommend Revitabrow; an advanced brow-growth serum which protects against hair breakage, conditions and combats the effects of over styling the brows.
I also recommend having an eyebrow tint before having any shaping treatment. The tint adds depth to the brow hairs and picks up any lighter coloured ‘baby hairs’, as well as covering any greys. This instantly makes any eyebrow look fuller, lifts the eyes and makes them appear more youthful.
Having both the eyebrow tint and shape is an increasingly popular treatment for clients of all ages and is commonly accompanied by a lash tint too. The treatment takes no longer than 30 minutes, and can last up to 6 weeks so it’s the perfect quick pick-me-up.
*A patch test for any tinting treatment is required at least 24 hours before any treatment.

After hearing all about the new facial and beauty package at twice-award winning No.6 in Tunbridge Wells, Get Ready and Go, I had to give it a try. I mean, who doesn’t want to be pampered and be set for a night out?
No.6 launched their online booking system last year which meant that I could snap up an appointment conveniently. On arrival I was greeted by Josie, their lovely receptionist, and after finishing with her client Aesthetician Beth came to welcome me. The ladies told me that owner Samantha had developed this new package due to popular demand. No.6 pride themselves on listening to their clients and developing signature facial treatments to meet clients’ needs and give the best possible results and experience.
Firstly, I enjoyed a relaxing facial which involved a thorough cleanse to remove my makeup and prepare the skin for the next step – a Vitamin C micro-peel based light exfoliator, which smelt divine. Vitamin C brightens the complexion and the beads gently exfoliate for a deep pore cleanse. The activator is then applied which dissolves the micro-beads and allows the Vitamin C to be absorbed at a deeper level, to refine and give the skin that special glow! The Aestheticians at No.6 tailor the ingredients to each individual, so the next step was a prescribed mask to treat my particular skincare needs. Whilst the mask was on, I was treated to a shoulder massage. Wow, I was really floating on cloud nine at this stage. Finally, vitamin serums were applied to my face and neck, as was SPF which you should wear daily.
Whilst I was still on the facial bed, the second stage of the package was a nail file and Jessica Phenom paint. This revolutionary paint really does dry very quickly and gives a gel-like shine without the use of a lamp or having to buff the nails. I chose a deep navy from a great range of colour choice.
Now was time to get those brows of mine “on fleek” and have a tidy. Maintaining your eyebrows, not only is quick and fairly pain-free, it really does make a difference in framing your face.
I was then taken to the makeup counter and was coloured matched to Jane Iredale’s foundation, which was applied and ensured that I felt comfortable enough to hit the town straight from my appointment. You can apply this makeup straight after treatment because of the pure mineral ingredients.
This super relaxing facial, which includes key service beauty treatments, is suitable for ladies and gentlemen (the Jessica paint is substituted for a nail tidy). The package is also suitable during pregnancy.
Snap up this introductory offer for yourself, or a loved one – it makes a fantastic gift! Only £55.00 (saving £30!) until the 23.12.2017. READY, SET, GO!
